Church of England commends the ‘rounded education’ in its schools The Chief Education
Officer of the Church of England has recently commended the work of church schools
in delivering a rigorous, rounded education for their pupils.
The Rev Janina Ainsworth said: “The idea that state schools are failing to teach
children the difference between right and wrong is palpably absurd, and demonstrates
an extraordinary ignorance of the high quality education available in the maintained
sector. “Church schools are not alone in addressing moral issues with pupils. Every
day our teachers, often working with pupils from disadvantaged and challenging contexts,
create a community where young people are able to learn by making mistakes and settling
disagreements. They do a tremendous job, and … I’m so proud of them.”
There are 4,700 Church of England schools in England, attended by 1
million pupils and Church of England primary schools account for 25% of all primary
schools in England.
