What is Grantham Passage?
Grantham Passage is part of GRANTHAM & DISTRICT POVERTY CONCERN, a registered charity which exists to support vulnerable members of the local community with the help of others.
Their aims are
RELIEF OF POVERTY - Assistance is given to any who are destitute, referred to agencies or through attendance at the 'Passage' sessions. Direct financial assistance is avoided and help is given in the form of food vouchers or utility card credit. Clothing, bedding and household items are provided where necessary.
RELIEF OF HOMELESSNESS·- There is a small but persistent number of people without shelter of any kind and a number more who 'sofa surf. Through the work of The Grantham Passage, which holds six sessions each week, shelter, hot food, clothing and assistance with access to agencies and community support is given. The Passage represents a way back for those who have fallen on hard times for whatever reason.
RELIEF OF ELDERLY PERSONS·- Help is given to any elderly person who needs immediate support because of distressing circumstances, such as inadequate heating, loss of purse, or other situations which require alleviating.
FUTURE AIMS·- Grantham Poverty Concern is looking forward towards the provision of a permanent centre with washing and laundry facilities and remedial support.
